Friends of Maclay Gardens

Citizen Support Organization of the Year Award for Cultural Resources

The Friends of Maclay Gardens has worked on several projects in 2020. With a board of about 13 members led by president Gary Griffin, the group has contributed 2,500 volunteer hours in the past year.

The Friends of Maclay Gardens allotted $50,000 for a much-needed replacement of the irrigation system in the garden. The group also provided funding for a new grapple attachment for one of the park’s large tractors, an aerator for the black pond, new plants and trees for the garden, and new archival equipment to be used in the historic Maclay House. The group also created a virtual tour of gardens to replace the in-person tour they host annually.

The board members provide tremendous support to the park. Without their assistance, the park would not have been able to accomplish all these projects in the short time frame in which they have been completed.
