Participants will meet at the visitor's center sign in, and receive gloves, rubbish bags, and safety instructions. Working in small groups, they walk along the beach collecting items such as plastic bottles, food wrappers, fishing line, cigarette butts, and other waste that may have washed ashore or been left behind.
Throughout the clean-up, volunteers often sort and record the types of rubbish collected. This information can help organizations understand pollution trends and reduce future waste.
Beyond cleaning, the beach clean-up creates a strong sense of community. Families, students, and local groups work side by side, knowing their efforts help protect marine life like seabirds, turtles, and fish that can be harmed by plastic and debris.
