2018 Race the Tortoise 5K Run @ O'Leno State ParkSaturday, March 3, 2018 - 8:00am to 10:00am EST

Race starts at 8 AM, Registration begins at 6:45 AM
We want YOU at the 2018 Race the Tortoise 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles) to be held at OʼLeno State Park on March 3, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. This event is hosted by Friends of OʼLeno, Inc.
This is an out and back certified race course (FL09012EBM) with mile markers. It is on the Park’s main road which is both scenic and paved. The start and finish lines are near the main parking area approximately 1.5 miles from the Park’s entrance.
This is a family-friendly, running and walking event promoting a healthy lifestyle and the beauty of OʼLeno State Park. Some participants will be racing for prize money and awards, some to achieve a personal best, and some to complete their first running event. Whether you run fast, slow, or walk, come out and challenge yourself to Race the Tortoise. All levels of ability welcome. The proceeds from the race will help provide for the creatures in the Park’s Nature Center and to help expand its exhibits.

Experience musket firing demonstrations as the Castillo de San Marcos Militia trains with the Fort Mose Militia. Children are welcomed to participate in Junior Militia training using our handmade wooden toy muskets and authentic militia uniform items. Monthly musters will not be held during July and December.

Join Native Nursery Volunteer Jenny Doyle for an informative and enjoyable walk through a tropical hardwood hammock. Jenny will focus the walk on forest habitat hurricane survival, following Hurricane Irma's visit to the park last September. The walk is free with the park entrance fee of $2.50 per person. Long sleeves and pants and insect repellent are suggested. Limited to 15 participants. Meet at the park's main entrance (former Port Bougainville archway), 1/2 mile north of the point where U.S. Highway 1 and County Road 905 converge.
The walk is conducted on both asphalt and unpaved trails. Participants may choose to stop at any point and easily return to the entrance.
Haz-Mat Recycling and Tire Amnesty Day @ Topsail Hill Preserve State ParkSaturday, March 3, 2018 - 8:00am to 12:00pm CST
Park admission is free for those dropping off recyclables during the event.
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and Walton County invite you to the Walton County Solid Waste & Recycling and Tire Amnesty Day!
Items being accepted are:
- Used Oil
- Stale Gasoline
- Paint, Paint Thinners, Paint Strippers
- Furniture Polish
- Brake Fluid
- Engine Degreasers
- Pool Chemicals
- Spot Removers
Waste tire amnesty will also be held on the same date, during the same hours and locations. Walton county residents may bring up to 12 tires per residence. No gas cylinders or explosives please.
Due to hazardous nature of certain components in home computers, old computer hardware including processors, monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners will be accepted.
