Moon Over Myakka Bike Ride

Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 5:15p.m.

Meet at the Visitors’ Center near the Ranger Station.

Join volunteer guides on a leisurely bike ride along the main drive to experience Myakka River State Park after dark. View sunset across Big Flats and the moon over Upper Myakka Lake. Learn a little of Myakka’s history, watch for deer at dusk and listen for barred owls.  At the end of our ride, climb the Canopy Walkway Tower to see the distant lights of Sarasota.

Distance: 10 miles – we’ll take a break at the halfway point.

Equipment needed: bicycle with front and rear lights, bug spray and water bottle.  A helmet is strongly recommended and is mandatory for anyone under the age of 16.

Additional Information:

Participants must be at least 12 years of age and anyone under the age of 18 must be acompanied by an adult.

23rd Annual Rails to Trails Bike Ride @ Withlacoochee State Trail

The cost is $35 per rider (over 12 years old) and $15 per rider (under 12 years old).

Come out on the first Sunday of March to participate in the 23rd Annual Rails to Trails bike ride! The ride begins and ends at the trailhead at 315 N Apopka, Inverness, 34450. Riders registered on or before February 12, 2018 will recieve a quality commemorative shirt. The trail is a paved 46 mile long converted railroad track. You may determine your own ride distance. Join a Park Ranger for a leisurely biking adventure around our Black Island Trail. Learn a little park history and experience some of the wildlife that call this maritime hammock home. Feel free to bring your own bike, or rent one from the in-park concession. Due to limited space, reservations are required.

Oleta Trail Blazers Work Day @ Oleta River State Park

Come out and help the Oleta Trail Blazer mountain bike group as they volunteer to help improve the mountain biking trails in the park.  Volunteering with this group includes but is not limited to cutting small exotic trees, adding dirt to trails, repairing ramps and bridges, building new features to the trail, trimming back vegetation and much more!  if you love to ride in Oleta River State Park and also want to help make the park even better, we hope to see you at a volunteer day in the future!  Tools and equipment will be provided by the park.
