Sometimes it takes a village. Florida Caverns State Park is grateful for their village of supporters, the Friends of Florida Caverns State Park.
The Friends of Florida Caverns State Park, a 501C3 non-profit organization founded in 2003, is comprised of volunteers who dedicate time and experience to assist the staff and visitors of the Florida Caverns State Park. Several of the charter members are still active and involved in the group’s activities.
The organization serves the park visitors by purchasing firewood, maintaining a coin-operated washer and dryer for the campers and maintaining a penny press in the museum. The group purchased a golf cart park for volunteers to use, making their work easier.
The Friends organization assists the park with annual events including Astronomy in the Park, Earth Day and Caverns Cultural Celebration. They are a part of the park’s “going green” movement.
Board members meet monthly to plan and coordinate efforts. The group holds quarterly meetings for community outreach and education.
Become active in your community and support the natural gems of Marianna! This is the perfect opportunity to interact with others who share your interest and learn all about the “Friends” of the Florida Caverns: who we are, what we do, and how you can become involved!
The Friends recognize the powerful tool the park serves to educate people of the value of protecting and celebrating the significant biological, geologic, cultural features and recreational opportunities that resulted in the Florida Caverns State Park being designated as Florida's 7th state park more than 60 years ago.
