A walk through our tropical hardwood hammock forest is like taking a step back in time. Hike on top of ancient fossilized coral that was once living under water. The coral rock now serves as high ground for hardwood trees so they can keep their roots high and dry out of the saltwater. This rare habitat is an oasis for local and migrating wildlife.
The trailhead is located one mile south on U.S. 1 from the park's main entrance.
- There are no bathroom facilities in this part of the park.
- Due to the coral rock, the trail is very uneven. Watch your footing and wear appropriate shoes.
- Stop by the ranger station for a map of the trail.
The paddling opportunities are outstanding at Curry Hammock State Park. Kayaks and paddleboards can be carried to the waterfront and launched from both the day-use area and campground. The shallow waters are usually calm with gentle currents. Paddle our mangrove tunnel loop, around the island of Deer Key or head out to a nearby sandbar.
- Equipment rentals are unavailable.
- Mangroves Matter Kayak Tour every Friday at 10 a.m. Contact the ranger station to sign up.
The picnic area is located on the southeast end of the park and has four pavilions, each with two barbecue grills and four picnic tables. The pavilions may be reserved for $53.75 for a full day or $32.25 for a half-day including tax.

Curry Hammock is a great place to learn to snorkel and practice your skills before heading out to the coral reef.
- A diver-down flag is required anywhere while snorkeling.
While camping at Curry Hammock, don’t forget to go out and look at the night sky. Stargazing is very popular due to the lack of light pollution in the area.
