NATURALIST led Fakahatchee Tram Tour with Swamp Walk.  "This offering combines elements of our longer tram tours and swamp walks to give participants a great introduction to the Fakahatchee," says volunteer naturalist Patrick Higgins.

Each Tram Tour and Swamp Walk begins with a ride on the group's Ghost Rider tram to the site of the swamp walk. After about 90 minutes of walking through the swamp, participants board the tram for the return trip.

Naturalists leading the group will share their insights about the Fakahatchee's flora and fauna on both wet and dry portions of the adventure. Fakahatchee Strand is home to the famous ghost orchid and many other rare plants and animals.

The Tram Tour with Swamp Walk is $60 per person. The tours begin promptly at 9:30 am and conclude by 1 pm.

Participants will be required to sign a standard release of liability form. Any cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to receive refund.

Participants should be sure to wear sturdy lace-up shoes( no sandals) and long pants and can change to dry clothes at the visitors restrooms for their drive home. This is an outdoor event, so dress appropriately for the weather.

The Tram Tour and Swamp Walk begins at the ranger station off Jane's Scenic Drive.  Janes Scenic Drive is accessible ONLY via SR 29 (between HI 75 and US 41) DO NOT rely on incorrect GPS direction providing a different route to Jane Scenic drive in Copeland FL.

You don’t have to get your feet wet or drive your car down Janes Scenic Drive to see the wonders of the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. The  “Ghost Rider” tram, named in honor of the famous Ghost Orchid found in the park, lets you look at wildlife and plants without concentrating on the road. The park is home to more orchid species than any other place on the North American continent.   The Preserve is also a haven for diverse wildlife and migratory birds.  An experienced guide leads each 2 1/2 hour tram tour and points out interesting aspects of the park. The tour includes a 15 min. walk down an old logging path to see numerous air plants, a variety of ferns, and seasonally blooming orchids.  The path is high and dry, but hikers need to wear closed shoes. The 20-passenger tram is wheelchair accessible and some seats face backwards.  Participants will be required to sign a standard release of liability form.

This is an outdoor event, so please dress appropriately for the weather.  Please wear secure, closed toe shoes for brief walks at tram stops.

The tram leaves at 10 a.m. from the ranger station at 137 Coastline Drive, Copeland, off Janes Scenic Drive.   Please arrive early as the tram leaves promptly.

This swamp walk led by an experienced Naturalist will immerse you in the beauty and diversity of the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve the largest State Park in Florida. For many visitors, a Friends of Fakahatchee Swamp Walk is the highlight of their Florida visit. Participants wade in cool water up to their waists for half a day observing the native wildlife and plants in the Fakahatchee Strand. This is a long, strenuous walk into the heart of the Fakahatchee. Participants will be required to sign a standard release of liability form. Any cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to receive refund.

Swamp walkers should wear long pants and lace-up boots or sneakers (no waders or open-top boots). A hat and long-sleeved shirt are also recommended. Bring water, snacks, or lunch. Bring bug repellent if you are sensitive. Put anything you do not want to get wet in zip-lock plastic bags. You can change into your dry clothes in the park's restroom for your return home.

Swamp walkers meet the Naturalist at the Ranger Station off Janes’ Scenic Drive no later than 9:30 a.m and can expect to be back around 2.30PM.

The Park's ranger station is located at 137 Coast Line Drive, Copeland, FL off of Janes Scenic Drive, Janes Scenic drive is only acessible via SR 29 ( between I-75 and US 41) DO NOT rely on incorrect GPS information providing other routes to access Jane Scenic drive in Copeland.

Thanks to the Moon Lit Fakahatchee Tram Tours, you can now view the magnificent Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park under the illumination of a full moon. The “Ghost Rider” tram, named in honor of the famous Ghost Orchid found in the park, lets you tour the park without concentrating on the road. The Fakahatchee is home to more orchid species than any other place on the North American continent. The Preserve is also a haven for diverse wildlife and migratory birds.

All tours start as the sun is setting, prime time for photography and spotting some of the mammal residents of the Strand as well as birds settling in for the evening.

The 24-passenger tram is high and dry and will provide an excellent platform for viewing park features illuminated by moonlight. City-dwellers will be amazed at how their vision changes as their eyes adapt to the light the moon provides.

An experienced naturalist lead each tram tour and will demonstrate communication with denizens of the night, including fireflies, bats and owls. The tram is wheelchair accessible and some seats face backwards. Participants will be required to sign a standard release of liability form. Any cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to receive refund.
