April Photo Contest @ Ravine Gardens State Park

$5 fee to the Friends of Ravine Gardens.

The Friends of Ravine Gardens are hosting a Photo Contest during the month of April!  Bring your camera and explore the park to get the perfect shot.  Photographs must be taken within Ravine Gardens State Park.  A printed 8x10 photo must be submitted to the park and a digital copy (.jpg, .tif, .png format) must be emailed to RavineGardensStatePark@gmail.com by 4 p.m. on April 30th to qualify.  Contestants must also complete a Photo Release Form upon entry.  The top 3 photographs will receive prizes and all photographs will be displayed at the Friends of Ravine Gardens' 20th Anniversary Celebration on May 16th.  

Additional Information:

Photographs may be in color or black and white.  Photographs may be either vertical or horizontal.  Entry materials will not be returned.

Join the Santa Fe Aububon Society on a Bird Watching Hike!  Participants will look and listen for birds while hiking through the ravine to the Water Works Environmental Education Center.  Recent birds observed include: Swallow-tailed Kite, Great Blue Heron, Wood Stork, Red-shouldered Hawk, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Great Horned Owl, and Barred Owl.  Participants will assist the Audubon Society in obtaining a bird count for the area.  This event is the kick-off to the Birds, Bees, Flowers and Trees Earth Day Celebration event at the Water Works Environmental Education Center.  After the hike, be sure to visit the Center to see a bee hive, meet Billy Bartram, listen to local music and enjoy a bit of nature.

Additional Information:

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, bug spray, water, and closed-toe shoes. The hike will be approximately one mile long and participants should take caution around roots, rocks and low branches, which are abundant on the trail.

Timucuan Native Americans lived throughout Northeast Florida for several centuries.  They used materials from the natural environment to craft their tools and construct their homes.  Join the Florida Public Archaeology Network at Ravine Gardens State Park to learn how Timucuans used shells, animal bone, stone and more!  This family-oriented workshop includes an interactive presentation and activities.

The Friends of Ravine Gardens invite the community to attend their 20th Anniversary Celebration!  The Friends of Ravine Gardens are a Citizen Support Organization (CSO) that support park projects and sponsor activities that are family friendly, community-minded, and instill a sense of wonder about the amazing history and beauty of our area.  Take a guided hike with Billy Bartram, meet the Miss Florida Azalea Queens, enjoy a wagon tour, do a scavenger hunt and view the beautiful photographs submitted during our April Photo Contest!  Tea, lemonade and water will be provided by the Friends of Ravine Gardens.  Learn how the Friends have been supporting the park for the last 20 years and see how you can become involved!
