Build a Bird House @ Ravine Gardens State Park

Ranger Jeff will lead a bird program and workshop for kids!  Learn about bird species in Florida, where they live, and how we can help our local birds.  We will supply the materials to build a bird house - you will be assembling them!

Additional Information:

Space is limited! Bird houses are available on a first-come, first-serve basis the day of the event.

This program is geared for children age 7 to 14, although all are welcome to attend. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

All proceeds from the program benefit the Friends of Ravine Gardens, our non-profit Citizen Support Organization (CSO).

Ranger James will lead a talk about butterflies!  Learn about the different species you might see here, when you can see them and what they eat.  Participants will then take a guided walk through Ravine Gardens State Park’s butterfly garden!  This program is geared towards adults, but all ages are welcome.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join Billy Bartram on a hike through Ravine Gardens!  Enjoy a living history interpretation of William Bartram’s travels and experiences in the 1700’s, while hiking the winding trails of the ravine.  The hike is family-friendly, however, there are some steep inclines on the trail.

Additional Information:

Sturdy shoes and long pants, sunscreen, insect repellant and water are recommended.  The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles long and participants should take caution around roots, rocks, and low branches, which are abundant on the trail.

Join Park Rangers and the Santa Fe Audubon Society on a bird walk!  Participants will look and listen for migrating and resident birds while hiking through the ravine.  This is a great opportunity to learn about commonly seen birds and how to identify them by both sight and sound!  Both novice and experienced birders are welcome.

Additional Information:

Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, bug spray, water, and closed-toed shoes.  The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles long and participants should take caution around roots, rocks and low branches, which are abundant on the trail.

Costume Run @ Ravine Gardens State Park

Saturday, October 24, 2015 - 8:00am to 11:00am EDT

Entry fees are $15 (under 18) and $20 for adults if paid before October 23rd, 2015.

Race day registration entry fees are $25 per runner.

Regular park entry fees will apply for spectators and visitors.

Join the Friends of Ravine Gardens for their 2nd Annual Costume Run!  The course is completely within Ravine Gardens State Park.  This 3K/6K Fun Run and Walk will be held on the historic scenic drive, a tree-canopied loop following the rim of 120-foot ravines, dipping to the bottom and climbing back up for a truly challenging event.  We will have professional chip timing on this USA Track and Field-certified course.  All registrants will receive a t-shirt and goody bag, which are included in the registration fee.  The race begins at 8 a.m. with an award ceremony to follow.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female overall finishers.  Also, the top male and female in the following age groups in the 3K and 6K will receive awards: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.

Participants wearing the top three costumes will also receive prizes!

Post-race refreshments and water will be provided.

Packet pick-up for racers is on Friday, October 23 from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the park office, or on race morning starting at 7 a.m.  Register early to ensure t-shirt size and availability.  Register on our website or in the park office Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. in the Civic Center lobby.
