The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park would like to invite you to The Volunteer Brown Bag Luncheon. We love to see our volunteers and share lunch time with them.  We will provide drinks and dessert.  We use this time to get to know our volunteers better.  If you are not a current volunteer and would like to be please join us for this monthly luncheon. We will meet at the Gardner's Cottage from noon to 1:00 p.m.

We invite the public to a volunteer work day to celebrate National Public Lands Day.  We plan to work on the trail system cutting back vegetation and filling in eroded areas to make the trails a better place to stroll, bike and run.  We will be using shovels, rakes and hand pruning tools Come join the fun and companionship.

Additional Information:

Bring water, insect repellant, sunscreen and your gloves.  You may bring any hand tools you would like to use.  Wear comfortable shoes and long pants.  We will meet at the Lake Overstreet Trail Head to register.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and The Friends of Maclay Gardens Inc. invite the public to enjoy an evening of Jazz in the Gardens.

Enjoy the music of The Longineu Parsons Group and The Thursday Night Music Club under the moonlight on the front lawn of the historic Maclay House overlooking Lake Hall.  Bring your blanket or lawn chairs, picnic, favorite beverages and friends.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the Friends of Maclay Gardens INC. would like the public to participate in and come out and see the display of one of a kind scarecrows during the month of October.  We invite you to create your own scarecrow and enter in the contest.  The registration deadline is September 28, 2015 and the contest is open to individuals, businesses, community groups, clubs and families.  Scarecrows will be on display October 7 - October 31, 2015.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park would like to invite the public to join us for a night under the stars. If you have children who are interested in the stars or you have a class that is studying the solar system this is the perfect venue for them to get first-hand information on amateur astronomy.  This will be a beginner’s class without the use of telescopes. Learn how to study the stars and planets with the naked-eye and binoculars.

The program will take place on the lawn at the park Visitor Center.

$25 in advance or $30 the day of the event. Available at Maclay Gardens, Espositos, Native Nurseries, Purple Martin Outpost, Tallahassee Nurseries and Wild Birds Unlimited.

The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the Friends of Maclay Gardens, Inc. invite the public to attend the 23rd Annual Tour of Gardens.  This tour of privately owned gardens is a fundraising event and a welcome to spring for many folks in the area.  The day will begin with a breakfast at Maclay Gardens at 9:00 a.m. along with a silent auction.  Participants will then be given maps and directions for a self-paced and self-driving tour to visit fine privately owned home gardens in the Tallahassee area.  This educational event displays diverse styles of gardens and solutions to common landscape design challenges and is enjoyable for all who appreciate the art of gardening. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions at each garden.

Admission for the event is free with regular park entrance of $6.00 per vehicle (eight person’s maximum occupancy).

This program is designed to introduce children of all ages to fishing through family interaction.  Participants and their families are rotated through different stations. After learning different aspects of freshwater fishing, the participants will fish from the dock. There will be drawings throughout the day for prizes sponsored by local merchants.

Please dress appropriately for a warm morning on the shores of Lake Hall and enjoy this opportunity for family fun and physical activity.
