The Department of Environmental Protection’s Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the Friends of Maclay Gardens, Inc. invite the public to attend the 22nd Annual Tour of Gardens.  This tour of privately owned gardens is a fundraising event and a welcome to spring for many folks in the area.  The day will begin with a breakfast at Maclay Gardens at 9:00 a.m. along with a silent auction.  Participants will then be given maps and directions for a self-paced and self-driving tour to visit fine privately owned home gardens in the Tallahassee area.  This educational event displays diverse styles of gardens and solutions to common landscape design challenges and is enjoyable for all who appreciate the art of gardening. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions at each garden.

Tree Identification Tour of Lake Overstreet Trails @ Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park will have an exciting and educational Tree ID Tour of Lake Overstreet Trails.  Come hike around the Lake Overstreet trails and stop to identify trees along the way.

Bring water, insect repellent and sunscreen.  Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Kayak 101 & Paddling Tour @ Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

Saturday, May 21, 2016 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm EDT

Sit-on-top kayaks provided at no charge by Florida Youth Conservation Center Network.  Reservations are required even if you bring your own kayak.   

 Free with paid park admission.

Bring your own kayak and gear or use a sit-on-top kayak provided.  Learn basic paddling skills and enjoy a short nature tour launching at Lake Hall.  This event is perfect for beginners.

Children 12 and older must be accompanied by an adult.

Reservations are required to save your spot, even if you bring your own kayak. 

Please wear quick-dry clothing (no jeans or cotton), closed-toe shoes and bring sunhat, sunscreen, sunglasses and water.

  

Kid's Fishing Day at Maclay @ Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

Admission for the event is free with regular park entrance of $6.00 per vehicle (eight person’s maximum occupancy).

This program is designed to introduce children of all ages to fishing through family interaction.  Participants and their families are rotated through different stations. After learning different aspects of freshwater fishing, the participants will fish from the dock. There will be drawings throughout the day for prizes sponsored by local merchants.

Please dress appropriately for a warm morning on the shores of Lake Hall and enjoy this opportunity for family fun and physical activity.
