Join us every Thursday in February and March at Fort Cooper State Park to enjoy the birding that this park has to offer. Led by a park volunteer, this weekly fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. Participants will observe a diverse variety of birds by walking the beach, nature trails and other areas. Participants should meet down by Lake Holathlikaha and are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and bird guides!

Join us for a naturalist-guided bird walk and learn about our feathered friends at Fort Cooper State Park. The walk will provide an opportunity to observe a variety of birds in diverse habitats. Program will start at the lake to scope the shoreline and open water at 9:00 a.m.

Led by naturalist and member of the National Audobon Society, Dee Bolton. Sponsored by the Friends of Fort Cooper. Please dress for the weather with comfortable walking shoes. Bring water, binoculares and a fields guide, if you have one. 

The monthly walk will be held on the second Thursday of each month: December 14, January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12, and May 10.

Do bats scare or fascinate you? Fort Cooper has a huge bat house with thousands of inhabitants. You are invited to join us on Thursday, March 8th for an interactive presentation on bats. Visitors will start the evening at 4:30 pm by "scoping" Lake Holithakaha, beach-side. Refreshments will be provided at 5:00 pm in the park's Recreation Hall. Shari Blissett-Clark, board member of the Florida Bat Conservancy will present her program entitled "Bats – Myth and Realty" starting at 5:30 pm. The program discusses bat facts, species diversity, environmental and economic benefits of bats. The program is approximately 50 minutes long and is followed by a question and answer period. Then visitors are invited to walk over to Fort Cooper's bat house and watch the swarm of bats emerging at sundown. Live bats will be displayed after the presentation. Reservations are required, as seating is limited. Please RSVP to naturecoastbirder5@yahoo.com

Come and enjoy modern and period artisans, living history demonstrations, exhibits, food and refreshments. The sound of musket volleys and the smell of gunpowder will greet visitors to Fort Cooper State Park as it celebrates Fort Cooper Days on March 17th and 18th. Experience Florida's history... the April 1836 skirmishes of the Second Seminole War on the shores of Lake Holathlikaha. Watch as volunteers re-enact an attack between a group of Seminoles and members of the First Georgia Battalion of Volunteers. Re-enactments occur at 11 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day.
