Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area - Opportunities to Get Involved

Are you interested in volunteering with Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area? Many of the activities, programs and services provided by our park and staff could not be accomplished without many talented and giving volunteers. We have opportunities available for local individuals, corporate sponsors and groups. See below for available positions.

Exotic Plant Removal: Learn to identify exotics in the park and remove them by hand or with the use of herbicide (training provided). Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, be willing to learn to mix and apply herbicides, use hand tools safely and effectively. If you like, you can participate weekly with our “Pepper Pickers”.

Trail Steward – Enjoy some outdoor exercise, while keeping our hiking trail in tip-top shape. Perform maintenance such as trimming vegetation and removal of down debris and litter. Make upgrades, improve signage or any other general maintenance. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, use hand tools and possibly small gas-powered, landscape tools in a safe manner. Training is offered as needed.

Mechanic – Help use keep our vehicles and equipment in good working condition. Experience working on trucks, ATVs, UTVs and small engines. Assist with routine maintenance and repairs.

Beach Clean-ups – We can always use help keeping our beaches litter free!

Service Projects –We would love to work with your group in planning a service project that will improve our park and benefit our visitors and the community.

Note: some volunteer positions may require a valid driver’s license and the use of on and off-road vehicles (training provided, if needed).

You are invited to join the Friends of Gamble Rogers State Park (FROGRS)! We are a community based Citizen Support Organization whose purpose is to support the parks through volunteerism and fundraising. Goals of the Friends can only be met by supporters like you! Become a member, volunteer, or donate today to support your state park! We are currently looking to fill these positions:

Treasurer – We need a highly motivated volunteer to replace our current treasure. Duties include writing checks, taking monthly deposits to the bank, preparing monthly financial paperwork for the meetings and attending monthly board meetings.

Web page designer –We are looking for someone to help use keep the Friends of Gamble Rogers State Park web page updated.

Volunteer

There are 175 state parks consisting of more than 791,000 acres, hosting more than 31 million visitors a year. Florida State Parks could not succeed without the help of volunteers. In 2015, volunteers contributed more than 1.2 million hours. Find out how you can volunteer at a state park. 

Friends of Florida State Parks

Friends of Florida State Parks is a statewide citizen support organization whose dedicated members and volunteers help support the entire Florida State Park system by preserving, protecting and ensuring accessibility to state parks, educating visitors about the value of state parks, encouraging community engagement and active use of state parks, and providing financial support to supplement state funding. Florida Greenways & Trails Foundation

The Florida Greenways & Trails Foundation is Florida's chief advocacy organization for non-motorized trails. The Foundation supports greater use of trails for recreation, for fitness and health, for reducing carbon emissions, for attracting leisure travelers, for building community, for beautification, and for a larger role in evolving multi-modal transportation policy. 

Friends Groups

Friends groups, also referred to as Citizen Support Organizations (CSO), provide support to individual parks by volunteering, educating visitors, hosting events and raising funds for specific park projects. There are currently 86 friends groups supporting state parks throughout Florida.

Florida Conservation Corps

The Florida Conservation Corps works to develop natural and cultural resource leaders by connecting them to areas of critical need in conservation, preservation, interpretation and resource-based recreation. The program encompasses Project A.N.T. (AmeriCorps Non-native plant Terminators) and Park Cadets.

Life Program

Are you interested in working with middle school students as they explore the natural world? The Learning in Florida's Environment (LIFE) program brings students out of their classrooms to learn science in Florida State Parks. The LIFE program offers a variety of volunteer duties and spans throughout Florida to include 22 state parks and many other public access lands along the way.
