Description

Join a park ranger on a guided tour of Lignumvitae Key. During the one-hour program, guests will explore the 1919 historical home built by William J. Matheson. Guests will be taken back in time as they explore the beautiful native stone home that is decorated with period furniture. On the tour, guests will learn how early settlers lived and survived the harsh environmental conditions of the Keys. Next, guests will meander around the landscaped yard to view the cistern, hurricane shelter and cannons from a 1695 shipwreck. The tour ends with a nature hike through the hardwood hammock. Guided ranger tours are offered on Friday, Saturday and Sundays at 10 am and 2 pm, from December to April. Access to the nature trail is by ranger-guided tour only.
