Description

You can help protect our coasts!

Come out and get hands-on with the oyster enhancement project at MacArthur Beach by creating "oyster gardens."

Participants will join park staff in preparing and installing wire baskets filled with clean oyster shell. These baskets will provide a hard surface for oyster larvae to attach and begin growing throughout peak fall recruitment.

The productive, populated shell can be placed throughout the estuary on our augmented reefs and grow into adults. Adult oysters are important for the health of our park and the rest of Lake Worth Lagoon because they clean the water, create habitat for other organisms, and help recruit future generations of oyster to keep the cycle going.

  • The project is open for people of all ages and backgrounds, with presentations from park staff and kid's crafts to explain the significance of oysters and this ongoing project for the health of our coastlines.
