Description
Join the Friends of Tomoka State Park in performing gyotaku fish painting! Gyotaku is a traditional form of Japanese art that began over 100 years ago as a way for fishermen to keep a record of the fish they caught. They would apply sumi ink to one side of a freshly caught fish, then cover the fish with rice paper and rub to create an exact image of the fish. We will be modifying the process slightly, allowing participants to create a "fish print" of their own! The workshop organizer will provide paper for fish painting; however, participants are welcome to bring a white t-shirt or a tote bag to create wearable art.
