Big Lagoon State Park along with the Escambia Amateur Astronomers Association invites you to spend an evening gazing at the skies. Clear skies permitting, members of the association will set up telescopes 30 minutes prior to sunset and have binoculars to capture views of the moon, planets and other celestial objects. The gaze will be held at the amphitheater parking area with telescopes set up on the left side of the amphitheater (east side of parking area). Visitors are requested to park in the back lot to avoid driving through and lighting up the viewing area. All participants must enter the park prior to sunset. The front gates will be locked at sunset, and visitors will not be permitted to enter the park after then. Please wear weather appropriate clothes and bring bug spray. The gazes themselves are free; however, normal park entry fees do apply. Note: Sunset times do change throughout the year, so please contact the Ranger Station at 850-492-1595 ahead of time to find out when the front gates will be locked for the evening.
