Description

Fall migration is starting!

With it comes some of the best birding opportunities of the year, and as such we are very excited to announce a new event, Birds in Blue: October Skies. Florida is a special place for birding and each season brings new surprises.

Fall is a time when the juvenile birds that hatched this year make their first migratory flight and sometimes they get lost and end up in places they aren't normally seen – that means you never know what to expect! If you're trying to check new birds off your life list this is the time to do it!

This event offers a bit more of a birding challenge than our spring Birds in Blue event and is a great way to practice identifying juvenile songbirds. Don't worry, though; our resident bird expert Chuck Honaker will be there to guide you along and help you learn how to identify birds that are not in full breeding plumage. You'll learn tips from an expert on identification, birding by ear, birding "at a glance", and where and when to find the birds you're searching for.

Essential Eligibility Criteria In order to participate in this program, one:

  • Must be able to walk with little or no assistance a distance of 2 miles on an unsurfaced trail with moderate terrain.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to the environment for a period of two hours. Heat, cold and insect bites are the primary concern.
  • Must be able to participate in a group setting without being disruptive.
