What is Geocaching you ask?  Well, it is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world. Geocaching was originally similar to the 160-year-old game letterboxing, which uses clues and references to landmarks embedded in stories.  Geocachers are free to take a treasure, or “swag” (except the logbook, pencil, or stamp) from the cache in exchange for leaving something of similar or higher value behind.

Enter the park through the main gate and park staff will direct you to the Camp Store, you will need a GPS or a smart phone capable with GPS.

Both kids and adults will be walking down the trail and they’ll come across the Spooky Scenario’s located along the hike. In addition, there will be a children’s area complete with a pumpkin patch, face painting, 25ft. shark slide, a dunk tank and much more.

For the faint of heart, there will be a graceful way to bow out: It’s a self-guided tour and if someone starts down the trail for the Haunted Hike and they get too scared, there will be exit points if they don’t think they can continue.

All participants will be recognized in local media, and there will be a contest to honor: Spookiest Spot, Most Creative Spot, Halloween Spirit (most participation). The deadline to reserve a Spooky Spot is September 15, 2017, and anyone interested can call (305) 361-8779 or email Art.Yerian@dep.state.fl.us.

The Friends of Cape Florida Inc. is a 501c3 cooperation and was established in 2000 to provide support to the Park and to help conserve and enhance the wildlife and other resources of the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.
