Learning about and purchasing native plants can be a daunting task, but it just got easier! The Coccoloba Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society volunteers will be selling native plants at the Koreshan State Historic Site Farmers Market Sundays, 8:00am - 1 pm.  Experts will be on hand to help answer your questions and teach you about the wonderful benefits of adding native plants to your landscaping. Come meet the birds at Anastasia State Park on this monthly bird walk! This fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. Participants will observe a diverse variety of shore birds, marsh birds, and hammock birds by walking the beach, boardwalks, nature trails, and other areas. Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars, water, comfortable walking shoes, and a field guide if you have one. Meet at the Island Beach Shop & Grill pavilion located at the end of the main park drive. This event is weather permitting and subject to cancellation.

Join a Ranger for a one-hour guided walk along our moderately difficult, 1.5-mile hiking trail. Come out and enjoy a leisurely stroll through our rockland hammock and take in the flora and fauna of the Florida Keys. Along the way, you will gain an appreciation for the difficulties plants and animals face in the sub-tropical ecosystem.

Additional Information:

Bug spray, drinking water and closed-toed shoes or hiking boots are recommended.

The narrow trail limits the walk to twelve people, therefore reservations are recommended.

Join Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on the third Tuesday of each month for Tai Chi Tuesday. Seated Tai Chi is 8:30a.m. – 9:15a.m. and Standing Tai Chi is 9:30a.m. – 10:15a.m. Tai Chi is a group, recreational exercise program that helps you relax and de-stress while focusing on grace, balance and breathing through slow, calm and deliberate movements. Weather permitting the group will be outside. Otherwise it will be inside the clubhouse. Group is limited to 25 participants. Class fee is $13 and does not include park admission. Park admission is paid at the ranger station upon coming in to the park for Tai Chi. Pre- registration is available until the night prior to the class either online at www.topsailparkfriends.org or at the Park Store. Day of registration is available at the Park Store before class starts only if there is space available. You can call the park store at 850-267-8333 for more information.

Take a 90-minute paddle around one of the islands that comprise Curry Hammock State Park. This ranger-led tour will give you an appreciation for the fragility of the nearshore ecosystem. You will see some of the damage man has caused and learn of the ongoing effort to preserve this valuable resource.

Yoga and Meditation with Kim Holton in the Paynes Prairie Visitor Center overlooking the prairie.  A beautiful place to relax and unwind from the day.  

This dynamic class will vary each week but always start with a half hour to 45 minutes of postures and movement appropriate for all levels, and end with 15-30 minutes of guided meditation. Longer meditations will always be done lying down. If you love to feel good, relax and enjoy the beauty of the prairie, this class is for you. Open to all levels of experience. If you have a mat or blanket, please bring one with you.

Join the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association on May 18, 2018 from 4:30pm- 10:00pm and view the beauty of the universe. They will start by setting up solar telescopes at 4:30 pm to safely observe our closest star, the Sun. Once the sun sets, they will transition to night time observing. Objects visible will depend on the season and time of night and normally include bright galaxies, star clusters and planets. Event is weather permitting, please call Henderson Beach State Park at 850-837-7550 the day of the event for further information. Event is free with paid park entrance fees . Entrance fees are as follows: $6.00 per vehicle 2-8 people, $4.00 for individual entrance. All participants must arrive prior to sunset, which occurs at 8:00pm.
