Coffee with the Birds - Museum Area @ Silver Springs State Park

Every 1st Saturday (October - April), take a walk on the bird side with birdwatchers of varying experience levels, from novice to expert. The short walk leaves from the river trail located in the museum area. Coffee will be provided. Please bring binoculars and sturdy walking shoes as well as anything else you need to be comfortable in the great outdoors, such as a hat, insect repellent, or other personal items. Other birdwatchers will have field guides but feel free to bring your own.

Most months begin at 8:00 a.m. but in the months of December and January the program begins at 9:00 a.m.

Enter the park from the camping & museum entrance, 1425 NE 58th Avenue, (also known as State Road 35 or Baseline Rd.) to access the Silver River Museum.

This program is in partnership with members of the Village Birders club.

This is a fun, family event where visitors can volunteer to clean our beautiful stretch of beach.  Sign in at the beach entrance next to the park's restaurant, Park & Ocean.  Volunteers will need to wear closed-toed shoes and be able to walk, bend, kneel and pick up items for two hours.  We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle.

Looking for volunteer opportunities for school or work? Want to give back or get involved with the community? Love being outside and want a reason to visit a state park? The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park invite you to volunteer with us! The first Saturday of the month our Florida Conservation Corps members will provide an opportunity for those in the community who may need volunteer service hours for school, scouts or other civic groups, or who just want to help the park. Children must be at least 12 years of age and anyone under 16 must be accompanied at all times by an adult. Work projects may include weeding, removal of invasive/exotic plants, or other garden or trail maintenance related activity. Be sure to dress for the weather of the day. In the event of rain or other severe conditions, contact the park before coming out. We are eager to help you get the service hours you need while helping the park in return.

Experience musket firing demonstrations as the Castillo de San Marcos Militia trains with the Fort Mose Militia. Join one of our park rangers for a guided paddle through Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.  This tour is perfect for kayakers of all skill levels and lasts about an hour.  You will learn about our history as well as our plants and wildlife.  If the tides are not cooperating then we substitute the paddle with a guided nature hike.  The tour lasts about an hour to an hour and a half.

Additional Information:

We recomend bug spray, sun block, and closed toed water shoes for the paddle. 

24th Annual Rails to Trails Bike Ride @

ENTRY FEE: $35.00 for riders over 12 years old, $15 for riders 12 and under (must be accompanied by an adult.) Mailed entries must be received by September 28, 2018. All others must register as “WALK UP” the day of the ride. and those riders who initiate an ONLINE registration after 3:45 PM, September 28, 2018 will not be included in the Pre-registered listings and must register as “WALK UP” the day of the ride. Early packet pick-up will be held on September 29, 2018, from 1PM to 5PM in the pavilion at the Apopka Trailhead for pre-registered riders only.

Registration starts on June 18, 2018 and ends on September 28, 2018

START TIME: 7:00AM - 9:00AM (no mass start) Rain or Shine.

LOCATION: The ride begins and ends at the Trailhead at 315 N Apopka Ave, Inverness, 34450. Continental breakfast will be available and lunch is from 11AM to 3PM at the Apopka Trailhead. Century Riders will find post-ride refreshments at the registration area until 4PM.

T-SHIRTS: Riders registered on or before September 10, 2018 will receive a quality commemorative shirt. Those registering after September 10, 2018 are not guaranteed a t-shirt. If you cannot attend, T-shirts will be mailed upon receipt of $5, postage.

SAG STOPS: Five stops along the way will provide water, sports drinks and food. Restrooms are available at SAG stops. All support ends at 3PM.

DOOR PRIZES: All door prizes will be given to randomly selected pre-registered (by 4PM, September 28, 2018) riders only and will be available for pick up from 7AM to 4PM at the registration area on ride day. At least one bike will be included in the door prizes.

Online registration will close at 3:45 PM on September 28, 2018.
