Kayaking 101 @ Dunns Creek State Park

The Friends of Dunns Creek State Park are excited to host their Kayaking 101 program! This program is designed for anyone interested in kayaking, particularly beginners. An instructor certified by the American Canoe Association will teach you the basics of kayaking during this three hour session. You will learn kayak safety, boarding kayaks, paddling strokes, and basic paddling maneuvers.

The training is limited to 6 participants and is $25 per person. Kayak, paddle, and Personal Flotation Device (PFD) rentals are included in the training fee. No children under 14 years of age please. Children 14-17 are able to participate ONLY with a registered parent/guardian accompanying them. Kayaking is a water sport so expect to get wet and dress accordingly. There are no refunds available for the training, unless another participant can fill the spot.

Junior Ranger Program @ Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park

Come visit our Junior Ranger table on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Learn how to become a Junior Ranger and join us for lots of cool nature activities! Children can complete the Junior Ranger CORE activities, collect passport stamps, and earn an official Junior Ranger badge, patch, or pin! Junior Ranger activities are appropriate for children aged 6 and up, but we will also have critter coloring pages and puzzles available for all ages. No reservation required. Meet us inside the Visitor Center located within the main park entrance, off US 441 in Micanopy.

Join Topsail Hill Preserve State Park for a Sea Turtle Baby Shower on August 18, 2018 from 4:30p.m. - 7:30p.m. Through games, activities and interactive displays event attendees will learn about sea turtles, sea turtle hatching season and all the animals that share the Gulf with them. They will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park being a Florida State Park. To add to the celebration, the first 250 event attendees will receive cupcakes as well as a free scoop of frozen custard from the Culver’s in Miramar Beach, Florida.

The agencies and organizations participating will have a “baby registry” or wish list of small and large items people can purchase and gift them to help further their mission. Some of the baby registries will also have things people can do to help sea turtles and other marine animals like keeping the beach #CleanDarkFlat or skipping the straw. Please know that there will not be any live sea turtles at this event.
