Volunteer Work Day @ San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park

The trails are built and maintained by volunteers. The CSO hosts work days on the second Saturday of each month, and invites you to join! Typical work days are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and include clearing and maintaining existing trails, building new trails, and improving the park's facilities. After the work day, lunch is provided. 

Meet at the CSO building at park headquarters at 8:30 a.m.

Please bring gloves, sunscreen, bug repellent, a water bottle and good humor!

Take a leisurely 90 minute paddle down the Hillsborough River and learn about the natural history and communities that make the Hillsborough River watershed so unique and important. This volunteer-led tour will be enjoyable for individuals, families and groups.

The focus changes for each month's tour. Themes will be:

  • The human and natural history of the Hillsborough River
  • Photography
  • Adaptive paddling; as well as
  • Project days to remove invasive exotic plants and river clean-up.

You can bring your own kayak or canoe or rent one from the park's concession.

We have a limited amount of kayaks (tandem and single) available for reservation without charge. Reservations are recommended! We ask that paddlers "Sign Up" through Sign Up Genius to reserve a kayak.

Experience St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park by way of kayak. This is a unique opportunity to visit one of Florida's magnificent barrier islands. You will paddle through mangrove lined creeks and visit a pristine, undeveloped beach. Your guide will point out various plant and animal species, including some that are rare or endangered, as well as providing insight into the management activities used at the park. Visitors of all ages and skill levels are welcome. The tour is approximately 3 hours long.

Free with park entry fee of $2.00.

Kayak Rentals: $26.50 for single, $37.10 for double.

Reservations are required, please contact Park office (772) 219-1880.

What to bring: drinking water, snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent.

No pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Come visit our Junior Ranger table on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. Learn how to become a Junior Ranger and join us for lots of cool nature activities! Children can complete the Junior Ranger CORE activities, collect passport stamps, and earn an official Junior Ranger badge, patch, or pin! Junior Ranger activities are appropriate for children aged 6 and up, but we will also have critter coloring pages and puzzles available for all ages. No reservation required. Meet us inside the Visitor Center located within the main park entrance, off US 441 in Micanopy.

Come and discover what life was like at the turn of the century in the Florida "piney woods." The cracker homestead is a replica of a 19th century pioneer settlement. This collection of buildings represents a small "Cracker'' settlement dating to the 1890s. A typical homestead of the time would have included a cabin and outbuildings such as a barn, pantry, smokehouse, and outhouse. Schoolhouses, churches, and blacksmith shops would have been found in settlements that homesteaders visited to attend social gatherings and barter for supplies. During the tour, these buildings will be open for viewing and on most tours the blacksmith's forge will be fired up. Meet at the Cracker Village across from the Silver River museum.

Join the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association on August 11th from 6:00pm- 10:00pm and view the beauty of the universe. They will start by setting up solar telescopes at 4:30 pm to safely observe our closest star, the Sun. Once the sun sets, they will transition to night time observing. Objects visible will depend on the season and time of night and normally include bright galaxies, star clusters and planets. Event is weather permitting, please call Henderson Beach State Park at 850-837-7550 the day of the event for further information. Event is free with paid park entrance fees . Entrance fees are as follows: $6.00 per vehicle 2-8 people, $4.00 for individual entrance. All participants must arrive prior to sunset, which occurs at 8:00pm.

Join park staff and volunteers on a guided night walk along Dade Battlefield's trails followed by a viewing of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower, weather permitting. Bring chairs/blankets, flashlights and insect repellent.

• Must have the ability to follow visual and/or verbal instructions independently or with the assistance of a companion.

• Must have the ability to withstand exposure to changes in weather conditions as well as darkness for up to 2 hours.
