Take a 90-minute paddle around one of the islands that comprise Curry Hammock State Park. This ranger-led tour will give you an appreciation for the fragility of the nearshore ecosystem. You will see some of the damage man has caused and learn of the ongoing effort to preserve this valuable resource.

2018 Summer Adventure Camp - Museum Area @ Silver Springs State Park

From "Spears to Rockets", campers will learn about Stone Age Tools, Pioneer Ingenuity, and Modern Marvels while doing activities that center on team-building games, fun crafts, and friendly competitions. Educational topics cover a wide range of Florida history and science, such as:

  • Ice Age: tomahawk throws, archery, and archaeology dig
  • Pioneer Life: exploring the pine forest, animal track ID, campfire cooking, candle making
  • Modern times: pontoon boat ride, rocket launching, movie night

This camp is a program of Marion County Public Schools and the Silver River Museum & Environmental Education Center.

  • This is a day camp with no overnight stays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • There are three one-week sessions (June 4 through June 22)
  • Ages 8-12.

Enter the park through the camping & museum entrance, 1425 NE 58th Avenue, (also known as State Road 35 or Baseline Rd.) to access the Silver River Museum.

Campers are accepted to the Silver River Museum Summer Adventure Camp on a first come, first serve basis.  Capacity will vary.  Payment must accompany registration forms. When a camp session is booked full, campers may be placed on a waiting list. In the event of an opening, campers on waiting lists will be contacted in the order in which their applications were received.

For participation requirements, please contact the camp director to decide whether the program is a good fit for your camper.

Weaving Fun @ Dudley Farm Historic State Park

Kids will enjoy exploring the natural environment with park staff and complete Junior Ranger activity sheets. Those who complete the activities and take the oath, will become official Junior Rangers. The activities are geared for youths ages 5-12, however anyone can come along and enjoy this fun time in the park. Bring a water bottle and sunscreen is recommended. Participants must be accompanied by an adult.

Each June and July MacArthur Beach State Park offers evening turtle walks so that visitors can have a chance at viewing loggerhead sea turtles laying their eggs. This ancient ritual is a sight not to be missed! Turtle Walks fill up quickly so be sure to register early. The Walk schedule starts on June 4, 2018 and runs through July 13, 2018 (M, W, & F with the exception of June 8, 22 and July 4). Registration launches on May 29 at 9 a.m. Registration will be online and sold as "tickets" through Price is $12.00 per ticket, non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by Park staff. The event is for adults and children 12 years old and up.
