Topsail Hill Preserve State Park and the South Walton Mosquito Control District (SWMCD) on March 30, 2018 from 10:00a.m. - 11:00a.m. Come learn about the insects and bugs that call the Florida Panhandle home. This program is free with regular park admission.  Topsail Talks is a monthly educational discovery series with presentations from organizations and government agencies from outside the park. Future dates and topics are “Coastal Species” by FWCC on April 20, “Shorebirds” by Audubon Society on May 4, “Bears” by FWCC on June 15 and “Prescribed Fires and the Forest” by Florida Forest Service on July 20.

Firefly Takeover At Blue Spring State Park @ Blue Spring State Park

Come take a guided tour to see the fireflies light up the Blue Spring sky. The park will extend closing time by one hour to visitors who would like to experience the hundreds of fireflies that visit this time of year.

To participate, please be in the park at least 30 minutes before closing. Obtain an After-Hours parking permit and Event Ticket. The meeting location will be on the Thursby House lawn.

Dress appropriately for the weather, this is an outdoor activity.

Bring a flashlight for before and after the event.

This event is a torch lit tour of the Crystal River site led by professional interpretive guides through the moonlit Crystal River Archaeological State Park. This site is a world-famous pre-Columbian ceremonial center on Florida's west coast. Travel back in time to experience the park under the full moon to learn what life was like living on the Crystal River from 500 BC to AD 950. 

The Moon over the Mounds tours will begin at the Park Museum building at 8:00 p.m. and end at approximately 9:30 p.m. Suggested donations of $5.00 per person will be applied to sustaining future interpretive programming in the park.

Trip is a 3-mile paddle with some current. Glow sticks are on the back of each canoe. We do some narration but you will mostly enjoy the quiet paddle and night noises by moonlight. The reflections are stunning. • Ages 12 and up • $40 per person, (2 people per canoe), plus park entry fee • Registration is required (239) 394-3397 • Canoe, life jackets, whistles and paddles are provided • Wear: Comfortable clothing, long sleeves and pants helpful • Bring: Water, bug spray, dry bag and a light jacket. • There is no place to get out of the canoe once the trip starts, so a restroom stop is wise just before the trip. A restroom is in the picnic area in the boat basin. • 8:00 pm - meet at the Ranger Station to make payment and then proceed to the boat basin/canoe launch area. • 8:15 pm – Be at the boat basin/canoe launch for Introduction and review of paddling strokes and safety tips. • 8:30 pm – Canoe Trip starts • 10:30 pm - Canoe Trip ends
