Florida Pro Surf Competition @ Sebastian Inlet State Park

The Florida Pro will feature a WOMEN'S QS 6000 competition offering the largest cash prize in the U.S. ($55,500), along with a MEN'S QS 1500 competition.

The Florida Pro will also host a "Champions & Icons" featuring former World Surf League champions and professionals.

We are expecting vehicle parking to fill up at peak times during the Florida Pro Surf Competition. There will be a $5.00 per person shuttle bus service provided from the South Beach Community Center, about 6 miles north on State Road A1A. The shuttle buses will be running every day of the Florida Pro Surf Competition, every fifteen minutes. Saturday, January 20 and Sunday, January 21 we are excepting vehicle parking to be at full capacity.

Take a 90-minute paddle around one of the islands that comprise Curry Hammock State Park. This ranger-led tour will give you an appreciation for the fragility of the nearshore ecosystem. You will see some of the damage man has caused and learn of the ongoing effort to preserve this valuable resource.

Tours are limited to six kayaks. Visitors should bring their own or rent from the park.

Camper Coffee @ Myakka River State Park

There are no fees required to attend camper coffee, however donations to help cover the cost of refreshments and supplies are greatly appreciated. Any proceeds will go directly to the Friends of Myakka River to help protect, preserve and support Myakka River State Park.

This is a great time to come and visit with your fellow campers, meet our fantastic volunteers and rangers, and find out about all the great things that Myakka River State Park has to offer. See if you can stump the staff with a question about the park! We serve fresh, hot coffee, tea and treats provided by the Friends of Myakka River. Bring your mug and join in the camaraderie around the fire!

Camper Coffee is generally hosted at the rustic Log Pavilion located just north of the Ranger Station along the park drive.

We will be relocating camper coffee to the fire circle at Big Flats Campground while the Log Pavilion is closed for repairs for the following dates: 1/24/18, 1/31/18, 2/7/18, & 2/14/18.

Big Flats Campground is located three miles north of the Ranger Station near the lake area. 

Guided Paddle (Or Walk) @ Oscar Scherer State Park

Paddle along South Creek and learn about the park and the estuarine critters. Please register between 8:00am and 8:45am at the Ranger Station. May bring own vessel or rent one from the Ranger Station. Some paddling experience recommended as it is a group tour.

Note: South Creek is a tidal water, therefore if water is too shallow for a paddle, a walk will be offered instead.

Join us for a Guided Walking Tour of the Historic Koreshan Settlement. Explore structures and gardens of the 19th century utopian settlement and learn about these idealistic pioneers. The walking tour is about an hour and a half and is accessible to all.

Additional Information:

Park admission is $2 for bicycle/pedestrian, $4 for one person in a vehicle, $5 for up to 8 persons in a vehicle. Walking tour lasts approximately 1 hour and is mostly outdoors on a crushed shell path. Please bring water, proper footware, and sun protection. Wheelchair available upon request.

Requests for these and other tours for clubs, home school associations, and other groups can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (239) 992-0311. We make every effort to accommodate all groups, however we may not be able to fulfill requests made with less than a two week notice.

Some of our Florida tales contain historical fiction, and some are merely legend, but all are great fun! Join us for an hour of entertainment sure to amuse and enlighten people of all ages. Our volunteers and staff will be on hand to share their favorite Cracker folklore and Florida history tidbits, vital to understanding The Real Florida!  Refreshments and snacks are provided by the Friends of Myakka River and donations are greatly appreciated.

Sponsored by Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, this year the talks will be held at Key Largo School cafetorium, MM 105, oceanside, Overseas Highway. The presentations cover a variety of topics from hurricanes and gardening to bats and marine debris. The doors open at 7 p.m.; the talks begin at 7:30 p.m. and last for approximately one hour. Admission is free. The series runs through March 7, but takes a break on February 14. Bring your own cushion or folding chair for added seating comfort.
