Every 1st Saturday (October - April), take a walk on the bird side with birdwatchers of varying experience levels, from novice to expert. The short walk leaves from the river trail located in the museum area. Coffee will be provided. Please bring binoculars and sturdy walking shoes as well as anything else you need to be comfortable in the great outdoors, such as a hat, insect repellent, or other personal items. Other birdwatchers will have field guides but feel free to bring your own.

Most months begin at 8:00 a.m. but in the months of December and January the program begins at 9:00 a.m.

Enter the park from the camping & museum entrance, 1425 NE 58th Avenue, (also known as State Road 35 or Baseline Rd.) to access the Silver River Museum.

This program is in partnership with members of the Village Birders club.

Do you want to learn how to Stand Up Paddleboard?? Come learn the foundations of beautiful sport at the BG Oleta River Outdoor Center, located within the Oleta River State Park. "Walk on Water" through Mangrove Creeks leading out to Biscayne Bay. Our knowledgable "SUP" instructor will provide you with a 10 minute on land lesson, including the anatomy of the board. Learn how to properly launch and mount your board followed by slowly coming to the upright standing position. You will learn proper paddling technique, how to handle adverse weather conditions and how to help another paddler in need. 

Don't be intimidated! This watersport is easier than it looks. Pick up a new hobby while meeting other local outdoor adventurists!

Nature Hike - EVERY Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Join a park naturalist for a walk on the Nature Trails of Koreshan State Historic Site. Do you love to walk the beach and find natural treasures? Ever wonder about those odd things you encounter on the beach? Join Patty Steman, a beach enthusiast and dedicated volunteer for the park, as she presents an informal overview of the many wonderful things you find while beachcombing. This fun-filled workshop will encourage discussion about ways to clean, preserve, and display shells and sea beans; plus identify egg casing, jelly fish, and other plant and animal materials that wash ashore. Bring your most treasured beach finds to share with the group!

Highland Hammock’s Music in the Park series features two more great concerts this spring!  T.C. Carr and the Bolts of Blue will make their first appearance at the park on April 28. “Harmonica Man” singer, songwriter and Florida native, T.C. Carr, is well known for his strong lead vocals and virtuoso harp work.  He has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe and established a reputation as one of Florida’s best Blues artists.
