Scarecrows in the Gardens @ Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park and the Friends of Maclay Gardens, Inc., invite you to enjoy Scarecrows in the Gardens! The 9th Annual Scarecrows in the Gardens event will kick off on October 15th. From the wacky and scary to the artistic, come enjoy these handcrafted creations along the Gardens’ brick walkway. If you want to join the fun, the Friends of Maclay Gardens invite you to create a one-of-a kind scarecrow to display in the Gardens through November 7th. Businesses, community groups, schools, families, and/or individuals are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Adult, Business, Non-Profit and Youth categories. Adult, Business and Non-Profit winners receive tickets to the 2017 Moon Over Maclay Concert to be held in the evening on Sunday, November 5th. Youth and People’s Choice winners receive cash prizes. Entries from prior years and current contest rules and registration information may be found at http://friendsofmaclaygardens.org.

Learning about and purchasing native plants can be a daunting task, but it just got easier! The Coccoloba Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society volunteers will be selling native plants at the Koreshan State Historic Site Farmers Market Sundays, 8:00am - 1 pm.  Experts will be on hand to help answer your questions and teach you about the wonderful benefits of adding native plants to your landscaping. Join us for a Guided Bird Walk and learn about our feathered friends here at Anastasia State Park! Led by a park volunteer, this monthly fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. Participants will observe a diverse variety of shore birds, marsh birds, and hammock birds by walking the beach, boardwalks, nature trails, and other areas. Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars, water, comfortable walking shoes, and a field guide if you have one. We will meet at the Island Beach Shop & Grill pavilion located at the end of the main park drive. Walk lasts 2 hours.

This weekly walk begins at the Nature Center and includes an informative walk through an ancient dune system.  This unique habitat is home to the threatened Florida scrub-jay and a variety of plants and other animals.  Participants should wear comfortable footwear for walking in soft sand.  Cameras and binoculars are suggested.  Space is limited to 15 people.

Oleta Trail Blazers Work Day @ Oleta River State Park

Come out and help the Oleta Trail Blazer mountain bike group as they volunteer to help improve the mountain biking trails in the park.  Volunteering with this group includes but is not limited to cutting small exotic trees, adding dirt to trails, repairing ramps and bridges, building new features to the trail, trimming back vegetation and much more!  if you love to ride in Oleta River State Park and also want to help make the park even better, we hope to see you at a volunteer day in the future!  Tools and equipment will be provided by the park.

Come enjoy local and visiting musicians perform acoustic music in a scenic area near the springs. Instruments usually include a banjo, guitar, fiddle, upright bass, and accordion.
