The first two days of this annual three day heritage event during Black History Month are reserved for scheduled school groups. Visitors walk along the freedom trail accompanied by a guide as they encounter a freedom seeker, a Yamasee also in search of freedom, a trapper turned and bounty hunter. Last but not least, a Franciscan friar directs them to a canoe waiting to take them the final few miles by coastal waterway to Spanish Florida. As they reach the outskirts of Saint Augustine, they are greeted by the leader of Fort Mose and Captain of the Black Militia Francisco Menendez who introduces them to the Governor of Spanish Florida, Governor Manuel de Montiano. Spanish soldiers and members of the Black Militia welcome them with a volley of cannon and musket fire. Community life at Fort Mose is represented by Spanish Colonial cooking demonstrations in the chosa.
Visitors wishing to enter the museum and exhibits are charged an admission fee of $2.00 per adult.
Children under the age of six are admitted free.
