As you roam down the short trail to the Cow Camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail, you will find a Florida Cow Hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will be cooking, making coffee, tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The Cow Hunter will be very happy to share stories about what his life is like and the challenges he faces.

Offsite Cow Camps are available for groups of 15 or more, schools, community organizations, special events, etc. Call the Ranger Station for more information.

Eagle Viewing @ Oscar Scherer State Park

This weekly program is offered during bald eagle nesting season. Two nests are located in the park but the easiest to access is on the Green Trail. Once nest construction has begun, part of the trails are roped off per federal law. To view the eagles from a safe distance, a Volunteer will be manning a viewing station. A high-powered spotting scope to view the nest will be provided. The 20-minute walk to the eagle viewing station on the Green Trail from the Nature Center or campground is self-guided and trail maps can be obtained at the Ranger Station and Nature Center.

History will come alive during this annual historical event at the Fort Foster State Historic Site. The event is a living history reenactment featuring military, Seminole, and civilian reenactors, sutlers, traders and craft demonstrations. Registration forms are available online. An opportunity to purchase period merchandise and refreshments is available to our park visitors.

Please note: This weekend event will offer ongoing daily live firing demonstrations and a skirmish between the Seminoles and military after 1 p.m. both days.

The Fort Foster State Historic Site is located adjacent to Hillsborough River State Park on U.S. 301 North, 9 miles north of Fowler Avenue and 6 miles south of Zephyrhills.

Come experience an afternoon in the hammock within Florida’s Everglades. There will be several chili stands for a tasting competition, antique autos, live music, food, and various artisans for the entire family to enjoy. Come hike one of our trails, or rent a canoe. Guided canoe trips are also available via reservation. Please contact the park for further information.

Enjoy watching and listening to musicians jamming out to live music.   This family-friendly program is sure to be full of toe-stomping fun located outside the Nature Center (inside the Nature Center if inclement weather).  Audience members are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
