Come meet the birds at Anastasia State Park on our monthly bird walk. Led by local naturalist and park volunteer, Sue Killeen. This fun and informative walk is open to participants of all birding levels. Participants will observe a diverse variety of shore birds, marsh birds, and hammock birds by walking the beach, boardwalks, nature trails, and other areas. Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars, water, comfortable walking shoes, and a field guide if you have one. We will meet at the Island Beach Shop & Grill Pavilion located at the end of the main park drive. In the winter months, there is a wide variety of migratory birds that cannot be seen any other time of year, along with our beautiful native species. Visit in the park and learn about our local wildlife and ecosystems while enjoying a nice walk with fellow nature lovers!

Take a guided kayak tour with a Ranger, paddling through Lake Worth Lagoon to Munyon Island, with your sights set on spotting estuary birds and migratory songbirds on the island.  The cost for the two-hour tour is $25.00 for a single kayak and $40.00 for a double kayak (2 people).  Bring your water bottle, binoculars, and favorite birding guide, keeping in mind they might get wet.  Please pay at the Ranger station a half hour before the tour is scheduled.  Space is limited, call for reservations or for additional information at (561) 624-6952.

1876 Cow Camp @ Lake Kissimmee State Park

As you roam down the short trail to the Cow Camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail, you will find a Florida Cow Hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will be cooking, making coffee, tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The Cow Hunter will be very happy to share stories about what his life is like and the challenges he faces.

Offsite Cow Camps are available for groups of 15 or more, schools, community organizations, special events, etc. Call the Ranger Station for more information.

Eagle Viewing @ Oscar Scherer State Park

This weekly program is offered during bald eagle nesting season. Two nests are located in the park but the easiest to access is on the Green Trail. Once nest construction has begun, part of the trails are roped off per federal law. To view the eagles from a safe distance, a Volunteer will be manning a viewing station. A high-powered spotting scope to view the nest will be provided. The 20-minute walk to the eagle viewing station on the Green Trail from the Nature Center or campground is self-guided and trail maps can be obtained at the Ranger Station and Nature Center.

Come enjoy local and visiting musicians perform acoustic music in a scenic area near the springs. Instruments usually include a banjo, guitar, fiddle, upright bass, and accordion. They may vary from month to month. Feel free to bring your own instrument and join in or just listen and enjoy. Hand claps and foot taps welcome!
