As you roam down the short trail to the Cow Camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail, you will find a Florida Cow Hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will be cooking, making coffee, tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The Cow Hunter will be very happy to share stories about what his life is like and the challenges he faces.

Offsite Cow Camps are available for groups of 15 or more, schools, community organizations, special events, etc. Call the Ranger Station for more information.

Manatee Springs State Park will be holding Clay Landing Days a living history event on November 24th and 25th. Clay Landing will bring you to a time when the Seminoles and Settlers lived in the Clay Landing area. There will be Covered Wagon Rides that take you on the North Trail with a stop at the Seminole Chickee Hut were Settlers and Seminoles will let you see what life was like in the Clay Landing area. All activities will begin at Manatee Springs Day Use Area from 10am to 3pm both days. The Day Use Area will also have Settlers showing cooking and crafts of the time period. There are Wheel Chair Accessible Wagon Rides available.

Paddle into the sunset by kayak on the scenic Silver River. Before it gets dark you will visit springs with names such as the Blue Grotto, the Garden of Eden, Fisherman's Paradise, and the Alligator Hole. On the way back to the launch, west along the river, the sun will be setting behind the headsprings.

Evening Under The Stars @ Big Lagoon State Park

The gazes themselves are free; however normal park entrance fees apply. 

All participants MUST have entered the park prior to closing time; which is sunset.  The front gates will be locked at that time, and visitors will NOT be permitted to enter the park after then. 

NOTE: as sunset times do change throughout the year, please contact the Ranger Station at (850) 492-1595 ahead of time to find out when the front gates will be locking for the evening.

Big Lagoon State Park, along with the Escambia Amateur Astronomer Association would like to invite you to spend an evening gazing at the skies!  Clear weather permitting, members of the Association will set up telescopes and binoculars to capture views of the moon, planets, and other celestial objects.  The event will be held at the East Beach Picnic Area, near the observation tower at Big Lagoon State Park.
