24th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk @ Highlands Hammock State Park

Thursday, November 24, 2016 - 8:00am to 10:00am EST

Race Entry Fee is $22.00 through November 12, 2016.  Shirts are available with registration completed by November 12.  The fee increases to $30.00 for entries received or postmarked after November 12 and shirts may be received only if they are available.  Special Kid's Race Entry Fee for children aged 11 years and under is $12.00.  There are no shirts available at this cost.  Shirt sizes are guaranteed to pre-registered contestants by November 12 ONLY!

Celebrate Thanksgiving by participating in the park's Annual Turkey Trot 5K!  Race contestants may either run or walk this special event, now in its 24th year.  Age groups with male and female divisions include Kids 8 years old and younger to Seniors 80 years and older.  Race entry forms are available at the Ranger Station.  On-line registration is available at http://endurancesportstiming.com/race-calendar/.  Email questions to cbrojek@comcast.net.  Please see Fees for information about race entry fees.  See Additional Information for participation requirements and other information.  Contestants are encouraged to register early this year as a large field is expected with over 600 runners!  Race start time is 8:00 a.m.  Runners are advised to arrive prior to start time between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m.

As you roam down the short trail to the Cow Camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail, you will find a Florida Cow Hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will be cooking, making coffee, tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The Cow Hunter will be very happy to share stories about what his life is like and the challenges he faces.

Offsite Cow Camps are available for groups of 15 or more, schools, community organizations, special events, etc. Call the Ranger Station for more information.

Paddle into the sunset by kayak on the scenic Silver River. Before it gets dark you will visit springs with names such as the Blue Grotto, the Garden of Eden, Fisherman's Paradise, and the Alligator Hole. On the way back to the launch, west along the river, the sun will be setting behind the headsprings.
