Moon Lit Tram Tour @ Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State ParkMonday, November 14, 2016 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm EST
Tickets are $40 per person. Spaces are limited and sell out quickly. Get your ticket now.
Tour provided by Friends of Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Thanks to the Moon Lit Fakahatchee Tram Tours, you can now view the magnificent Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park under the illumination of a full moon. The “Ghost Rider” tram, named in honor of the famous Ghost Orchid found in the park, lets you tour the park without concentrating on the road. The Fakahatchee is home to more orchid species than any other place on the North American continent. The Preserve is also a haven for diverse wildlife and migratory birds. Your tour starts as the sun is setting, prime time for spotting some of the mammal residents of the Strand as well as birds settling in for the evening. The 24-passenger tram is high and dry and will provide an excellent platform for viewing park features illuminated by moonlight. City-dwellers will be amazed at how their vision changes as their eyes adapt to the light the moon provides. An experienced naturalist leads each tram tour and will demonstrate communication with denizens of the night, including fireflies, bats and owls. The tram is wheelchair accessible and some seats face backwards. Participants will be required to sign a standard release of liability form. Any cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to receive refund.
NOTE: PLEASE CHECK WEATHER REPORTS AND DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THIS ADVENTURE. EVENINGS CAN BE COOL WHEN THIS TOUR IS OFFERED. The tram leaves promptly at 6:30 pm from the ranger station at 137 Coastline Drive, Copeland, off Janes Scenic Drive. The park entrance is on the west side of SR 29 between I-75 and U.S. 41. This is the only access to Janes Scenic Drive. Please DO NOT rely on GPS or Google Map info which may incorrectly show other routes.
