Oleta River State Park Urban Greenspace Event @ Oleta River State Park

Please come and join the Friends of Oleta River State Park and FIU for a community volunteer day on October 30th, 2016.  Volunteers will be helping the park by picking up ground litter, planting new plants and removing invasive exotic plants from the park.  The event will take place at our corner lot next to the Shell Gas Station on NE 163rd and Biscayne Blvd.  We will provide coffee from Starbucks, food from Whole foods and FIU will also be providing snacks to volunteers.  Thank you for helping us make Oleta River State Park even more beautiful!

As you roam down the short trail to the Cow Camp, you will travel back in time to 1876. At the end of the trail, you will find a Florida Cow Hunter in a frontier camp along the route of a cattle drive. He will be cooking, making coffee, tending to the cattle or just resting up until the next roundup or cattle drive. The Cow Hunter will be very happy to share stories about what his life is like and the challenges he faces.

Offsite Cow Camps are available for groups of 15 or more, schools, community organizations, special events, etc. Call the Ranger Station for more information.

Halloween Costume Party - Main Entrance @ Silver Springs State Park

Lake Louisa State Park will be home to the First Annual Trunk-or-Treat event hosted in partnership with Friends of Lake Louisa State Park, the park’s staff, and P3 Lake Louisa. The event will feature a costume contest with categories for infants, toddlers, children, tweens, teens, adults, families, and pups. The winners of each category will receive a prize and recognition at the closing ceremony. Through the duration of the event participants will enjoy safe trick or treating, games, a scavenger hunt, crafts, food trucks, and other local vendors. All activities and games will be free, or very low cost. Proceeds will benefit The Friends of Lake Louisa State Park and their initiative to improve the amenities within the park.
