First Saturday Militia Muster and Training at Fort Mose @ Fort Mose Historic State Park

Saturday, September 3, 2016 - 9:00am to 11:30pm EDT

This is a free outdoor program.

Entrance into the Visitor Center is $2.00 per person; children up to age 5 enter free.

Visit Fort Mose on the first Saturday morning of each month and become immersed into the 18th century. The members of the Fort Mose Militia come together to practice firing drills and teach new Militiia members historic weapon use and safety. Visitors will experience historic weapon demonstrations including musket firing drills. Children of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in the children's militia training, using wooden toy muskets and authentic uniform accessories. This experience will provide a wonderful photo opportunity and a one of a kind experience, in a Florida State Park!

Weeki Wachee Mermaid Calendar Signing @ Weeki Wachee Springs State Park

The big reveal for the 2017 Weeki Wachee Mermaid Calendar will take place Saturday, September 3, from 9 AM - 11 AM. They will go on-sale that day for $20 at the park. The calendars will be available on-line via Merstar at merstarworld.com, beginning September 9, 2016. The mermaids in the calendar will be available to sign your copy of this limited edition calendar, so don't miss out on this one time opportunity to say hello to the World-Famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids!
 
All the mermaid tails used in the 2017 calendar were made available by renowned tail-maker, Merbella Studios Inc.
 
A portion of the proceeds benefit the Friends of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.

First Weekend Union Garrison @ Fort Clinch State Park

This program will allow visitors to interact with living historians to experience life in the fort as it was in 1864. The grounds will be bustling with soldiers in period costumes involved in firing demonstrations, marching drills, cooking and daily activities. Ladies in their dresses, sutlers displaying their wares, fife players and drummer boys bring every part of the civil war era to life. Come join in this unique, family friendly event.

Critter Crafts for Kids @ Oscar Scherer State Park

This weekly program features different arts and craft opportunities for kids.  A Volunteer will be on-hand in the Nature Center to instruct and provide the materials but parents are asked to remain with their child throughout the program; parents are welcome to participate as well.  Supplies and seating is limited, so participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Every Saturday, a ranger will present a program on a different topic at the Silver River Museum & Environmental Education Center. Examples of programs include "Weavers in the woods," "What's that sound?," "Pioneer survival," as well as programs on topics such as fire, gopher tortoises and more. For the specific topic or program for the coming weekend, please contact the ranger station.
