Kayaking 101 @ Dunns Creek State Park

The Friends of Dunns Creek State Park are excited to host their Kayaking 101 program!  This program is designed for anyone interested in kayaking, particularly beginners.  An instructor certified by the American Canoe Association will teach you the basics of kayaking during this three hour session.  You will learn kayak safety, boarding kayaks, paddling strokes, and basic paddling maneuvers.

The training is limited to 6 participants and is $25 per person.  Kayak, paddle, and Personal Flotation Device (PFD) rentals are included in the training fee.  No children under 14 years of age please.  Children 14-17 are able to participate ONLY with a registered parent/guardian accompanying them.  Kayaking is a water sport so expect to get wet and dress accordingly.  There are no refunds available for the training, unless another participant can fill the spot.

Directions:  The training will be held on Lake Broward at the Lake Broward Recreation Area on N. Broward Avenue in Pomona Park near Dunns Creek State Park.

This weekly program features different arts and craft opportunities for kids.  A Volunteer will be on-hand in the Nature Center to instruct and provide the materials but parents are asked to remain with their child throughout the program; parents are welcome to participate as well.  Supplies and seating is limited, so participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Every Saturday, a ranger will present a program on a different topic at the Silver River Museum & Environmental Education Center. Examples of programs include "Weavers in the woods," "What's that sound?," "Pioneer survival," as well as programs on topics such as fire, gopher tortoises and more. Guided Kayak Tour @ Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach

Join us for a guided kayak tour on the Intracoastal Waterway and salt marsh. Learn about the importance of this dynamic ecosystem while paddling peacefully in one of the park’s kayaks. All levels of experience are welcome. Each participant will receive a brief safety demonstration, an introduction to basic kayaking techniques and gear requirements. Bring bug repellent and dress appropriately for the weather. Kids in double kayaks must be at least 12 years old. Kids in single kayaks must be at least 16 years old. Registration is limited to the first 12 people.
