Experience St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park by way of kayak.  This is a unique opportunity to visit one of Florida's magnificent barrier islands.  You will paddle through mangrove lined creeks, and the tour will visit a pristine, undeveloped beach.  Your guide will point out various plant and animal species, including some that are rare or endangered,  as well as providing insight into the management activities used at the park.  Visitors of all ages and skill levels are welcome.  Tour is approximately 3 hours long.

Stroll among the flowers in our peaceful wildlife habitat butterfly garden. Learn from a garden Volunteer about the importance of the variety of host and nectar plants and discover the caterpillars, chrysalises, birds, butterflies and pollinators living among the blooms.

Participation Requirements

Please allow yourself at least 15 minutes to walk from the main park entrance back to the butterfly garden. Be prepared to walk uneven, sloping, paved and unpaved walkways. Participants should bring water and wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes. Bug repellant and sunscreen is recommended. There are no restroom facilities near the butterfly garden. Well behaved pets on a leash are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Join a guide on a burn zone scavenger hunt! You learn about how the process of prescribed burning mimics natural wildfires that occur and how fire is essential for the plants and animals found in Florida.

Bring your own kayak and gear or use a sit-on-top kayak provided.  Learn basic paddling skills and enjoy a short nature tour launching at Lake Hall.  This event is perfect for beginners.

Crabbing Basics: Making it Delicious, Keeping it Sustainable!

The tidal salt marsh of our park is home to the Atlantic Blue Crab, a keystone species of the local ecosystem that can easily be sustainably harvested!  Learn to catch these tasty crustaceans in a one hour hands-on program, appropriate for adults and families. We will be meeting at the Killdeer Pavilion, on the west side of the park. This program is free with park admission and subject to cancellation due to weather conditions. You can RSVP at Eventbrite.

Come early and enjoy our Surf, Sun and Safety day going on from 10:00 - 3:00.
