Take a leisurely walk with volunteer trail guides Brian and Susan Woodworth as they explore park nature trails, observe birds, and discover what’s blooming.  These two self-taught naturalists actively scout trails in advance of their hikes and keep track of the areas where birds and other wildlife are likely to be found.  Woodpeckers, red-shouldered hawks and Florida water birds are common and winter migratory birds may be sighted.  Alligators, turtles, deer, otters and snakes are sometimes spotted.  The walks are currently scheduled every Monday through the end of March.  A new series of Monday Morning Nature Walks begins on February 1 on the Fern Garden Trail.  Remaining walks are scheduled as follows:  Young Hammock Trail/February 8, Cypress Swamp Trail/February 15, and Richard Lieber Memorial Trail/February 22.  Each trail is unique and visitors will explore the ecology of hammocks and swamps and learn about their associated flora and fauna.  The degree of difficulty of the walks ranges from easy to moderate.  All of the preceding trails are located on the Loop Road.  Meet at the parking areas of trailheads shortly before 9:00 a.m.  The hike will take approximately one hour to 90 minutes.  Please dress for the weather and wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes, long pants and protective clothing.  Visitors are advised to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water and snacks.  Walking sticks can be helpful and binoculars, field guides and cameras are welcome.  See Additional Information.

Additional Information:

Scheduled walks are subject to change depending on conditions.  Visitors are advised to check at the Ranger Station before preceding to the trails. There are no restroom facilities along the Loop Road, so visitors are advised to stop at the restroom in the picnic area prior to the hike.  Florida State Parks are in various stages of accessibility.  To learn more about the participation requirements for this activity, please see EEC RANGER - LED NATURE WALKS.
