FCSP Park Manager Heath Alboher

The warmer weather is bringing a variety of wildlife back to the park. Shorebirds and songbirds are plentiful throughout the park. As a reminder to our guests, please do not disturb the resting shorebirds as they use the park to rest during their migration. Fishing activity is also increasing as the large red drum, black drum and trout are actively running along the shore. Flounder returned to the shores in May!

This is the time of year that I enjoy a great time to hike the parks nature trails, mountain bike the parks multi use trails or take a leisurely stroll along the parks 3 mile drive. Bicycle rentals are available at the Fort Visitor Center. The Park offers one of the most well preserved maritime hammock communities which provides critical habitat for a diversity of wildlife including White Tailed Deer, Raccoons and other wildlife regularly seen at the park!

Be sure to visit Historic Fort Clinch and the Visitor Center during your visit. If you want to experience one of the best living history interpretive programs, the Fort is manned by Living History Interpreters on a daily basis that provide a valuable glimpse into our nation’s past during the Civil War. Some of my favorite special events occur during this season. The Visitor Center provides a wide variety of educational material, refreshments, souvenirs, firewood and more!

I am proud to state that the park has worked hard to increase accessibility and improve services and programs offered at the park. All of the bathhouse facilities and boardwalks are fully accessible. The park also offers a variety of wheelchairs including beach wheelchairs and a standard wheelchair to access the fort facility. Please take the time to let us know of any improvements that can be made or even minor modifications that will help you fully enjoy your experience at Fort Clinch State Park.

A number of special events are taking place throughout the summer months including Ranger Led Interpretive Programs, Guided Nature Trail Hikes, First weekend Fort Garrisons. Browse the Park Special Events page for a complete listing of our Special Events.

Come out and see why Fort Clinch is one of the Best Kept Secrets in Northeast Florida! We look forward to seeing you soon!
