sea turtle nest

It looks like summer is officially here! Warm water, rainy days and sea turtle nests.

Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park is home to the loggerhead sea turtle. Every year, from May through October, the female loggerhead makes it's way to Florida beaches. She will come ashore at night and lay eggs, or make an attempt. Each morning a Park Ranger will patrol the beach looking for her tracks. Each nests or nesting attempt, refered to as a false crawl, will be recorded and the nests screened to help ensure the safety of the eggs. Pictured is nest #6 and we hope to have many before nesting season is over.
