The fall season is here, skies are clear, temperatures are slowly coming down to more moderate levels and the park is recovering from Hurricane Irma. Although Irma gave the area a glancing blow, it still caused a considerable amount of damage. To the credit and ability of the staff, they worked very hard to get the park reopened on September 27, 2017. Everything is open for use except the Jetty walkway.
Fall is probably the best time of the year to visit the park, because of the visitation decreases giving one the feeling of having the place all to themselves. Annual migrations of birds and fish heading south for the winter start occurring to the mutual delight of birders and fishermen.
We want to advise everyone to watch out for cliffing problems, caused by storms and aggressive wave erosion. The most severely affected areas are the northern sections of the beach and these areas are posted with warning signs.
