The Friends provide support directly to the park with a focus on preservation, interpretation and special events.
The Friends have supported many wonderful projects over the years, including restoration of the prints and photographs seen throughout the house, shipping Rawlings four-poster bed back to the farm when it was donated, and completing many wonderful events and interpretive programs.
Their work through the years has highlighted the pleasure and importance of the Rawlings site, including the pursuit of National Landmark recognition and the park celebration when it was awarded. The Friends hosted the event when the US Postal Service recognized Rawlings as the national literary figure of the year. A huge crowd filled the park on that day. In the spring of 2014, a year-long celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Pulitzer-prize winning The Yearling was completed, which included an outdoor viewing of the film and a series of talks and special programs through the region. Many volunteer as individuals, assisting on the board or providing volunteer service directly to the park.
It is a wonderful way to serve the community and to preserve and protect this small, wonderful place of American and Literary history. To learn more about the Friends and how you can help, visit their webpage.
