A Message From The Director

Plan Your Outdoor Fun!

Welcome to the website for Florida’s state parks and state trails. This website will help you plan your visits to Florida’s 171 award-winning state parks and state trails.

Governor Rick Scott has proclaimed June as Great Outdoors Month, which presents a wonderful opportunity for visiting a state park to enjoy outdoor fun with your family and friends. From beaches and trails to boating, fishing and picnicking, gathering your toys and head outside to play.

I’m very proud of the three state parks beaches that made the Top 10 Beach List for 2015: St. George Island State Park in the Panhandle ranked #3, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne ranked #6 and Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park in Naples was ranked #9. Florida State Parks include more than 100 miles of beaches and are a tremendous driver for the state’s tourism industry, creating jobs and economic opportunities.

The list is produced by coastal expert Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as “Dr. Beach,” a professor at Florida International University. Every year, since 1991, Dr. Beach has released the top 10 beaches using 50 criteria he created to rate the nation’s best beaches. Criteria to determine the ranking of the nation’s top beaches include beach material, water temperature, sand softness, smell, trash and litter, safety record and algae in the water.

Other Opportunities:

National Trails Day – June 6

National Fishing and Boating Week – June 6-14

International Picnic Day – June 18

Summer Solstice and Father’s Day – June 21

Florida's state parks and state trails offer many opportunities for outdoor recreation and family fun. Check out the Junior Ranger program. Introduce a child to the joys of nature. They can discover fun outdoor activities at their own pace or join a ranger-led program.
