Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park

About Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park

The quarry at Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park in the Florida Keys.

A NOTE FROM THE MANAGER

Mike Guarino

The great South Florida weather beckons park visitors to take a walk through our tropical, hardwood hammock and view the exposed coral, quarry walls from Henry Flagler's day in the early 1900s. It's hard to believe that this wonderful park exists right off of Highway U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 84.9.

We have trails, picnic tables, and a wonderful Education Center where you can learn about our cultural and natural resources. Pack a picnic lunch and wander through mahogany, gumbo limbo, white ironwood and pigeon plum trees. The birding is great, and viewing the remains of the ancient coral reefs is spectacular. We are one of the only two spots in the contiguous United States where one can view the remains of an ancient coral reef. We are definitely worth a visit!
