Manager's Message
Spring is in the air. And, although extremely dry so far, the weather is still comfortable and the wildflowers are blooming. Some of the flowering plants you might observe at the park include wild buckwheat in the Sandpine Scrub, marsh pinks in the Baygall and fetterbush and gopher apple.
Butterflies help to pollinate the wildflowers and add color to anyone's visit to the park. A few of the butterfly species you might observe include the cloudless sulphur, zebra longwing and buckeye.
In late spring and early summer, we also have an occasional influx of yellow flies, a type of deer fly. They are few and far between. However, a visitor to the park should be prepared with sunscreen and insect repellent to make their visit more enjoyable.
Seabranch Preserve offers visitors a place to visit sand pine scrub, a "globally imperiled" habitat; to slow down and to enjoy "…the REAL Florida." Please come and visit your park soon!
- John Griner, Park Manager
Welcome to Seabranch Preserve State Park
Ancient oceans shaped the physical landscape of this park, which allowed a variety of habitats to develop over time. Today, this preserve provides a unique opportunity to experience several different natural communities in a relatively short distance. In less than one mile, visitors can see rare sand pine scrub, scrubby flatwoods, a baygall community, and a mangrove swamp. Hikers can explore these natural communities over four miles of trails. A small picnic shelter is also available. Future recreational development is planned for this preserve, including the addition of interpretive displays and an elevated boardwalk. Located near Hobe Sound in eastern Martin County about 10 miles south of Stuart. Access to the park is from State Road A1A near the VFW parking lot.
