Sandy trail through sandpine forest.

Manager's Message

Summer is here although we are still waiting on the rainy season to begin. The Tarflower is blossoming as well as the Goldenrod and the Redbay tree. The Hog Plum and the Gopher Apple is starting to develop fruit. The Sabal Palm, Florida’s State Tree, is also flowering and will bear fruit late this summer.

Summertime means high temperatures and humidity. It is also peak time for yellow flies. The preserve can still be enjoyed if you plan your visit accordingly. Please plan on visiting early in the day or late in the afternoon to coincide with cooler times of day. Please bring plenty of drinking water and sunscreen and, at times, insect repellent is advisable.

The preserve offers many miles of trails and firlanes to hike. The trail system is well marked and maintained by the “Tropical Trekkers” chapter of the Florida Trail Association. There are limited facilities at the trailhead. However, no drinking water is available so please plan accordingly.

Please come and visit Seabranch Preserve State Park and explore a beautiful example of “…the Real Florida.”

- John Griner, Park Manager

Welcome to Seabranch Preserve State Park

Ancient oceans shaped the physical landscape of this park, which allowed a variety of habitats to develop over time. Today, this preserve provides a unique opportunity to experience several different natural communities in a relatively short distance. In less than one mile, visitors can see rare sand pine scrub, scrubby flatwoods, a baygall community, and a mangrove swamp. Hikers can explore these natural communities over four miles of trails. A small picnic shelter is also available. Future recreational development is planned for this preserve, including the addition of interpretive displays and an elevated boardwalk. Located near Hobe Sound in eastern Martin County about 10 miles south of Stuart. Access to the park is from State Road A1A near the VFW parking lot.
