NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY--MY FIRST VOLUNTEER PROJECT
Ravine Gardens State Park
Date: September 27, 2014, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Whether you’re a volunteer pro or a newbie, we invite you to participate in our new ‘First Recreation Activities’ initiative. Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in an Air Potato Round Up in conjunction with National Public Lands Day. National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort to improve public lands in the United States with properties all over the country getting involved to keep our public spaces healthy and beautiful for all to enjoy. Participants are invited to assist in removing air potatoes and vines from the park so that together we can maintain our gardens’ natural beauty. Air Potato is a nonnative plant quickly sprouting vines that eventually smother native plants if the potatoes aren’t exterminated. This Air Potato Round Up is part of a series of round ups that will lead up to the annual Air Potato Rodeo to be held in February. The Rodeo is an exciting event featuring food, fun and prizes! Participants will also receive a free Florida State Park one day pass valid for entry to any Florida State Park. Gloves, trash bags and tools will be provided. Please bring water, sunscreen, bug repellent and wear close-toed shoes. Registration is requested. Register at www.NPLDAirPotatoRoundUp.eventbrite.com .
