Welcome to our State Park!

Manager's Message

It’s time to check out your summer active wear and beach attire! Gulf water temperatures are rising and will soon be irresistible. The swim suit from last season or the new suit you dreamed of all winter will soon be in high demand. The “magic” number for getting in the water is a little different for each person. Whereas most locals prefer warmer water and can afford to wait, those from different climates may be enjoying the water very soon. But it’s not just the beach bums that will be keeping a watchful eye on the Gulf water temperatures. Fishermen will soon invade the beaches looking to catch the annual cobia migration. But don’t forget about the other activities like bird watching, shelling, and leisurely walks in the surf that make the beach a year-round destination.

If you’re interested in camping, Big Lagoon State Park is located just across the bay and offers tent, camp trailer, and RV sites. Take a short drive up the road and you’ll discover Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park which offers a variety of nature trails to start your next adventure.

Whether packing a lunch for the day or packing your tent for the night we hope to see you soon!

- David Colbert, Park Manager

Welcome to Perdido Key State Park

Barrier islands protect the Florida mainland from the harsh effects of storms and provide habitats for shorebirds and other coastal animals. Perdido Key is a 247-acre barrier island near Pensacola on the Gulf of Mexico. White sand beaches and rolling dunes covered with sea oats make this park a favorite destination for swimmers and sunbathers. Surf fishing is another popular activity. Boardwalks from the parking lot allow visitors to access the beach without causing damage to the fragile dunes and beach vegetation. Covered picnic tables overlooking the beach provide a great place for family outings. Located 15 miles southwest of Pensacola, off State Road 292.
