Date: Saturday and Sunday, January 3 & 4, 2015

Description:

If you're interested in taking your next camping venture beyond the campground, but you're not ready to make the trip on your own, then join one of our rangers on a group overnight hike just off the beaten prairie path. Journey along biologically and historically unique areas, and learn about the Prairie's relationship to people of the past, present, and future.

This overnight trip is a moderately strenuous hike of approximately 6.5 miles over level to slightly rolling terrain. The pack in, pack out hike begins Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., and concludes on the following Sunday around Noon at the starting point.  Trip begins and ends at the La Chua Trail parking lot.

Fee to Attend: $15.00 Per Person

Limited to 20 People

The hike is strictly limited to 20 people, and prepaid online registrations are required. Please note that these programs fill very quickly, so reserve your spot soon.

Reservations are taken ONLINE only at Friends of Paynes Prairie, Inc.

This hike is not recommended for children under 10.

No pets permitted.

Directions: Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is located 10 miles south of Gainesville, in Micanopy, on the east side of US 441.

Coming from the north on I-75: Take exit 374, the Micanopy exit, and turn left at the end of the exit ramp. You will then be traveling east on CR 234. Stay on this road 1.4 miles until it intersects with US 441. Turn left onto 441 and go 0.6 miles to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park (on the right).

Coming from the south on I-75: Take exit 374, the Micanopy exit, and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. You will then be traveling east on CR 234. Stay on this road 1.4 miles until it intersects with US 441. Turn left onto 441 and go about 0.6 miles to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park (on the right).
