Additional Information for Ochlockonee River State Park

Wildlife

Because the park is nestled in scenic pine flatwoods, it is the perfect area for nature studies. Small grass ponds, bayheads and oak thickets provide a diversity of biological communities especially suitable for wildlife. Animals such as deer, fox squirrel, bobcat, gray fox and numerous species of birds are commonly observed. Of special interest is the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, unusual in that it makes its nest cavities in living, mature pine trees.
